Kawaiisu, a language of the Numic branch of Uto-Aztecan now spoken by only a few people in central California's Kern County, has until now been rather poorly described. Kawaiisu is a member of the Southern Munic subgroup, the other members of which form a dialect chain from Chemehuevi in the west through Southern Paiute to Ute in the east.
