This edition was limited to 450 copies and printed by Saul and Lillian Marks at their Plantin Press. Twenty full-page lithographs from the celebrated San Francisco weekly, The Wasp, which during the final decades of the last century alternately entertained and scandalized its readers by a series of cartoons satirizing the behavior of leading political and social figures of the day. The Wasp was the first to print cartoons in lithographed in color, and its weekly double-page spreads, drawn by a talented group of artists, long made it unique among American periodicals. The twenty lithographs included in the book - all reproduced in the brilliant colors of the originals - throw revealing light on many aspects of California life during the contentious '70s, '80s, and '90s.
