Edinburgh: Cannongate Publishing, 1978. First U.K. Edition. 352pp. Octavo [23.5 cm] Black boards with the title gilt stamped on the backstrip. Near fine/Near fine. Item #8235
First U.K. edition of Abbey's most famous and influential novel, that follows the deeds and adventures of Doc, Hayduke, Bonnie, and Seldom Seen, as they protest the industrialization and destruction of the southwest through means of sabotage and "monkeywrenching." Because of this work, the term 'monkeywrench' has come to mean, besides sabotage and damage to machines, any sabotage, activism, lawmaking, or lawbreaking to preserve wilderness, wild spaces and ecosystems.
