View of a herd of elk. We believe this image is by Stephen N. Leak. Stephen Nelson Leak (1858-1943) was a longtime resident and founder of Jackson Hole, who settled in the area in the mid-1880s. Leek is credited by many for the National Elk Refuge with his letter writing campaigns, his push for protective legislation, and most notably, by his photographs of these majestic (and enormous) creatures, with a camera given to him by George Eastman.
