Nice edition of this classic California novel that helped to spread the fame of the state, and no doubt helped to fuel migration to the area in the late 1800s and the first few decades of the 20th century. This work also helped to publicize the injustices and ill-treatment of the indigenous peoples of California, which in turn led to reforms in the administration of Native American affairs. Zamorano 80: 46.
