Nice tinted view of Main Street in Bannack, Montana. This image was likely taken for Moncure's lecture on Montana Ghost towns that he gave on occasion.

Walker Peyton Moncure (1916 - 1987) was the son of a trader, who grew up among the Cheyenne and Crow Indians and spent much time with the Flathead, Pend d'Oreille, Blackfeet, Assiniboine and Gros Ventre tribes. The Cheyenne named him "Ex-sar-sivia" (sharp-nose white man). He worked at Fort Missoula detailing Forest Service maps based on aerial photography and retired from the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture News-Information Education Dept. Peyton Moncure earned a reputation as a writer-photographer, an authority on Montana Indians and ghost towns, and a wildlife conservation advocate.
