View of a group of people, most of whom are holding tennis rackets, posing in front of the officer's quarters at Fort Assiniboine - two members of the group are in Cavalry uniforms. Orlando S. Goff (1843- 1916) moved to Dakota Territory in 1871 and established the first studio in Yankton. In 1873, he moved to Bismarck where he opened a studio, and that same year he became the post photographer for Fort Abraham Lincoln in Dakota where he took a series of photographs of George Armstrong Custer and his officers. He also took many photographs of Native Americans, including the first photograph of Chief Joseph of the Nez Perce in 1877.
