This is Jenkins love letter to the Bonneville Salt Flats. David Abbott Jenkins (1883-1956) was a professional race car driver, and one-time Salt Lake City mayor (1940-1944), who set many land speed records in his famed car the ‘Mormon Meteor,’ some stood for decades.
"To what do I attribute my physical endurance? This question has been put to me many times. I attribute my endurance to total abstinence from intoxicating beverages and tobacco. Yes, I have many times been approached with offers for the use of my name in testimonials for the sale of things injurious to the health. I wouldn't sell the boys and girls short for any sum of money. I am proud of the youth of my country. I want to encourage as many as I possibly can to grow up strong with healthy bodies that will stay with them through life as mine has, thanks to my Mormon mother's teachings." - author's Prologue.
