George Ben Wittick (1845-1903) arrived in New Mexico Territory in 1878 as a photographer for the Atlantic & Pacific Railroad, he operated studios in Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Gallup, and Fort Wingate. He photographed the people and places throughout the area, during a time of upheaval in the American Southwest. His photographs of Billy the Kid and the Apache leader, Geronimo, have been reproduced for a century.
