View of a Shoshone village near Fort Stambaugh, Wyoming, in 1870, by the legendary photographer, while he worked on the F.V. Hayden survey. "The presence of Chief Washakie and his band of Shoshone Indians at this place was most fortunate, for Dr. Hayden was anxious to have as many photographs as possible of the Indians. About seventy lodges of the Shoshone band had been pitched not far away." - W.H. Jackson.
William Henry Jackson (1843-1942) was one of the most prolific (and maybe the most famous) of Western artists. During his lengthy career, Jackson photographed and painted numerous views of the West between Nebraska and California, from cliff dwellings to industrial urban centers.
