Inscribed by David O. McKay to his son, Edward R. McKay on the front free endsheet. Nice association copy. David O. McKay (1873-1970) spent his youth in Huntsville, Utah. As a young adult he studied at the Weber Stake Academy and the University of Utah with the intention of being an educator. At the age of 32, he was called as an Apostle, beginning a life of service in the LDS Church's highest councils. He was sustained as President of the Church on April 9, 1951, a position he held for 19 years.

Orson Ferguson Whitney (1855-1931) served as a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, from 1906 until his death in 1931. Whitney was also a politician, journalist, and taught at Brigham Young College during the 1890s. He was also the author of several publications and wrote the lyrics to a few of the LDS Church's hymns. Flake/Draper 9777.
