The first state-wide brand book for Colorado was printed in Chicago in 1884 for the Colorado Cattle Growers Association; the next one was printed in Denver in 1885, but both of those first two were much shorter than this one only about 60 pages each. There were two other brand books done in Colorado just before this one, but only for local areas (Bent County, 1885, and La Junta, 1886). This is the fourth brand book for the entire state of Colorado, appearing in 1887 after the first state issued one in 1886.
