Gold Rush Sojourners in Great Salt Lake City 1849 and 1850
Salt Lake City: University of Utah Press, 1983. First Edition. 178pp. Octavo [23.5 cm] Light green cloth with the title on the backstrip. Fine/Fine. Item #10175
Mormon pioneers settling in the Salt Lake Valley in 1847 after years of persecution and deprivation in the Midwest had no way of knowing that the discovery of gold in California would result in an invasion of their mountain sanctuary by thousands of gold-hungry emigrants. This work examines the mutually advantageous economic relationships that sprang up between the two groups and describes the social intermingling that occurred as Mormon and non-Mormon visited each other.
